Remastered Ubuntu Linux

New youBots are shipped with an USB stick that contains a remastered Ubuntu distribution. The current version for this is 1.0.0, containing Ubuntu 12.04 and ROS Hydro together with the required youBot drivers and some demo applications.

The USB stick can be used as a bootable live media or for installation. It can be used on almost any PC and is not limited to the onboard PC of the KUKA youBot. If you lost the stick or it got damaged, you can download the ISO image from the download link below.

Running the PC from the youBot Live-USB:

• Connect monitor, mouse and keyboard to the (robot's) PC.
• Start your (robot's) PC from the USB stick.
• When starting, you will get a boot prompt. Just press Enter.
• Select one of the items from the menu, except the installation one.
• After booting, you can log into as the user "youbot" with password "youbot"

Installing the Ubuntu operating system from the youBot Live-USB:

NOTE: If you do not install on a fresh youBot, you might first want to backup your data from the PC.

• Start your PC from the USB stick
• When starting, you will get a boot prompt. Just press Enter.
• Select the "installation" item to install the operating system.

The following installation steps are the standard installation routine of Ubuntu as described in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall

NOTE: There is just one exception compared to the standard installation. If the "Who are you?" window appears, you have to set a name, but this will have no effect to your system. After the installation there will always be the user "youbot" with password "youbot". You can only change the name of your PC.
