Handling the battery

youBot is using a 24V/5Ah battery based on Lead Acid technology. And have to be handled with care!

Golden rules of battery handling

• Always disconnect battery when not in use
• Charge the battery as often as you can
• Do not overdischarge the battery (Voltage < 10.5 V).

Charging the battery

The battery can be charged in 2 ways :

1. Plugged in the youBot platform, while the external power supply is connected.

   Note : You can still operate the youBot while charging.

2. Using a specialised Lead Acid battery charger

   Like the youBot Battery Charger

Attention : Do not try to charge the battery with an normal power supply, since it doesn't support the 3 stage charging and will damage your battery.

Storing the battery

• At all times, to prolong its active life, a battery should be recharged immediately after it has been either partially or fully discharged.
• Avoid over discharging the battery (Voltage < 10.5 V).
• Never leave a battery in a discharged condition.
• Never allow a battery to fall below 2.1 Volts per cell (Vpc) (12.6 V) in storage, If the Voltage of charge (Voc) is less than 2.1 Vpc, the nominal battery capacity may not be achieved and the actual service life decreased.
• Storage Temperature: 20 - 30 Celcius; Charging Interval: Every 4 months.
• Stored batteries should receive a supplementary charge at the above-suggested interval if they are to achieve their design life.
• A faster recharge may be obtained by using the constant current method of charging.
